FineSoccer Kids 71

Welcome to the FineSoccer Kids Newsletter.  Today’s subject deals with changing the point of attack.

In the same way that the FineSoccer Kids Newsletter is designed to make you better on the field, SoccerAtEase and Pursuing Personal Perfection are designed to make you better both on and OFF the field.  To learn more, please go to http://finesoccer.com/socceratease.htm

If you are playing in the center of the field (center midfielder, center back etc) and receive the ball from your right side (for example if your right midfielder passes the ball to you) realize that the area that is almost always open to attack into is your LEFT side.  The reason for this is that most likely the reason your right midfielder passed the ball is because she was under pressure by the opponents.  Since most teams look to defend with numbers (if there are 2 players attacking down the right side they will try to get 3 players defending on that side for safety) when the ball comes from pressure playing back into pressure doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.  If there were more defenders than attackers to the right, this would indicate you should be able to attack with numbers to the left.

There certainly are exceptions to this such as wall passes, double passes etc which have the ball going back to the side it came from but as a general rule of thumb look to play the ball away from where it came from and you will have a lot of success with finding numbers up situations.
