FineSoccer Kids 58 Welcome to the FineSoccer Kids Newsletter. Today’s subject deals with beating a player. Once you have beaten a player off of the dribble (usually either with a move, feint or change of pace) the next thing to do is make sure you put yourself in a position to not be caught from behind. Too many players, once they beat an opponent try to use their speed to get away from the defender but the problem with doing this is that most defenders are faster without the ball than attackers are with the ball. So by trying to take a route away from the defender allows the defender to catch up relatively quickly. The alternative is for the attacker to beat the defender and then go directly in front of the defender so that the attackers body is between the defender and the ball. This will force the defender to either have to take a longer route to get to the ball or to foul the attacker from behind. What might seem like a small part of the game will determine whether an attacker is successful or not in getting to goal or whether she allows the defender to catch her on a regular basis. Any questions, comments or suggestions should be sent to Lawrence@finesoccer.com or they can be posted on the FineSoccer Forum at http://finesoccer.net To subscribe to any of the FineSoccer Newsletters, please go to http://finesoccer.com/subscrib.htm Have a great day!
