FineSoccer Kids 22 Welcome to the FineSoccer Kids Newsletter. Today's subject deals with wall passes. A wall pass is the most basic of combinations. Player A passes the ball to Player B and then Player A makes a run. Player B one touches the ball back to Player A into the space that Player A is running. The reason it's called a wall pass is that Player B basically acts like a wall. She will normally play the ball at the same angle that it was played into her so it's just as if the ball was played into a wall as it will come off of it at the same angle. The reason wall passes are effective is that when Player A passes the ball, the player defending Player A will usually turn to watch the pass and will lose Player A when she makes her run. This allows Player B to play the ball into space behind the defender for Player to run onto. The whole key to a successful wall pass is to make the hard run after the pass (see http://finesoccer.com/finesoccer_kids_10.htm for more on sprinting after the pass).
